Hannah's Hands

Our name comes from Hannah in the Old Testament who gave up her beloved son, Samuel. We are connected to Hannah by giving up our handiwork to others.

Hannah’s Hands is a group of crafters who enjoy sharing their talents with others. Our group formed several years ago as a prayer shawl ministry. The shawls were blessed and given to residents in an area nursing home as well as home-bound parishioners.

Knitters then began to fashion wool caps and scarves for seafarers and inland mariners. The knitted items are donated to Seaman’s Church Institute which then distribute them to the sailors. We have also knitted baby items to go to Africa, lap robes for all of the residents of St. Anthony’s House, hats and scarves for Open Air Ministry (a ministry to the homeless). We are always on the lookout for groups or individuals who might benefit from our love of knitting.

We have now been joined by ladies who create beautiful beaded door knob blessings and Anglican rosaries. Any and all are welcome to join us.

Hannah’s hands is one way for me to share knitting and knitted projects with others. We give warmth and comfort to someone in need. A warm wool cap and scarf for a seafarer on the deck of a cargo ship. Or an afghan to brighten the room of a nursing home resident. Or a prayer shawl for someone recovering from illness or suffering the loss of a loved one. Yes, knitting with Hannah’s Hands means sharing love and laughter as we work on our projects together. But most of all, it means giving warm woolen hugs to those who need them.
